On August 31, 2015, we have been given the opportunity to premiere the film Heneral Luna at the Krikorian Monrovia Cinema 12. With only two weeks to plan the premiere, the turnout was the least we expected! Binibining Pilipinas USA, Arthur De La Rosa Real Estate, Triune Home Health Provider, LA Filipino Mural, and tons more, even from out-of-state, showed their support and to have a great time!
This film is not released in Philippines just yet, until further notice, but a date will be announced soon. Therefore, being able to premiere this film for the very first time in The States is definitely an honor.
I personally don’t know much about the Filipino history – the ones that I’m mainly familiar of that I can name are Dr. Jose Rizal Jr, Andrés Bonifacio, and Emilio Aguinaldo. That’s about all I know. Therefore, just like any other Phil-Am native here in the states would ask himself, “Who’s General Juan Luna?” Sure it is a foreign name – but this film makes it great way to get to know a little bit about this man.
With my lack of knowledge of the Filipino history, and lack of the ability to pay attention in class in my early ages, watching this movie is a great way to get exposed to some of the unspoken pasts of the Philippines. With great cinematography, the quality of the movie reels you into your chair. It is action-packed filled with tons of emotion and humor, not only does it make it informative, but most importantly, very exciting, thrilling, and entertaining!
In the beginning, you will ask yourself, “Who is General Luna?” By the end of the film, you will walk away feeling a lot of pride for your own nation. That is definitely a much preferable alternative to reading books – not that books are a bad thing. All you gotta do is see the movie to find out yourself about some of Philippines’ mind-blowing history that makes us who we are today.
